Free swimming
with children's swimming lessons
At Places Leisure, we believe all children should have the chance to learn how to swim and be taught how to stay safe in and around water.
Learning to swim is a life essential for everybody, especially children, but many of them are still missing out.
Swimming and water safety are compulsory in England’s national curriculum, meaning every child should leave primary school with the skills to safely enjoy swimming with friends and family. Each child should be able to swim over 25 metres confidently, perform safe self-rescue, and effectively use a variety of strokes.
Drowning remains one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so swimming is also a lifesaving skill to have. Even if swimming doesn’t end up becoming a child’s favourite way to exercise, it’s still crucial to learn.
This makes swimming lessons, and practice time outside of lessons, even more important!
That’s why we offer free swimming for all children who do swimming lessons with us*. It’s a convenient way to master what they’ve been learning, get used to practicing without a teacher, and for parents/carers to provide support and encouragement.
Our swimming lesson programme for school aged children follows Swim England’s Learn to Swim Framework, from Stages 1-7, to deliver structured lessons that build confidence in the water from the moment they take their first dip.
Don’t forget that you can use Course Hub to track your little one’s progress! Once you’re logged in, you can see the outcomes for each swimming stage/level, get notifications of awards they’ve achieved, and move to them on to the next stage when appropriate.
The fun doesn’t stop there! After completing their lessons, children can then get stuck into our aquatic activities while continuing to enjoy free swimming on the side.
