Supporting Swimathon
Celebrating 15 years of partnership
Swimathon holds a special place in our heart at Places Leisure. Our longstanding partnership has now surpassed 15 years, running the event across the majority of our centres.
Representing the world’s largest annual fundraising swim, Swimathon provides an opportunity to anyone who fancies swimming for a good cause – with distances ranging from 400m to give access to all abilities.
The swim allows individuals to complete the distance on their own or team up with friends and families to raise as much money as possible for charity partners – Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie. Both charities represent causes close to the nation’s heart, supporting the 1 in 2 people that will get cancer and those with a terminal illness and their loved ones who need support during end of life.
Promoting community is at the core of what our company stands for and this partnership goes beyond the fun that the event brings. The money raised contributes to making a difference to our wider community where it counts.
Encouraging people to engage in a healthier lifestyle brings joy, fulfilment, and good health to the lives of our members. But sadly, some things can’t be solved with exercise. Supporting these charities through Swimathon allows us to make a difference beyond our centres.
Mark Haslam, our Head of Swimming and Sport, commented: ‘Our partnership with Swimathon is one that has lasted many years and will continue to do so. The event is a special time for members of the community to come together and use activity to contribute towards some great causes. What better way to fundraise.’
Duncan Goodhew, MBE, Swimathon President said: “To all Places Leisure swimmers and staff, you are all stars. So many Swimathon Challenges completed over 15+ years with so much money raised for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK. Well done and I feel sure you’re going to make this year’s event the best ever!”
